Book of the Month-November

Winner of the Man Booker Prize October 2008
Meet Balram Halwai, the ‘White Tiger’: servant, philosopher, entrepreneur, murderer. Over the course of 7 nights, Balram tells his story.
The White Tiger is a tale of two Indias. Balram’s journey from darkness of village life to the light of entrepreneurial success is utterly amoral, brilliantly irreverent, deeply endearing and altogether unforgettable.

Book of the Month October

The Secret Scripture-Sebastian Barry

Set against an Ireland besieged by conflict, The Secret Scripture is an epic story of love, betrayal and unavoidable tragedy of individual lives throughout much of the twentieth century. It is the story of a life blighted by terrible mistreatment and ignorance, and yet marked still by love and passion and hope.

Book of the Month September

Netherland gives us a picture of a little-known New York and of 21st century America from an outsider’s view point. Netherland is a novel of belonging and not belonging, and the uneasy state in between. It is a novel of a marriage foundering and recuperating, and of the shallows and depths of male friendship.
